[Clover is holding her gear in one hand. While she's in her usual pigtails and earmuffs, her outfit is entirely different. It's clearly a black uniform trimmed with white and topped with a lacy white apron. She's walking away from one of the restaurants in Cherrygrove, looking a little bushed.]

I can't believe I was nearly late for work today! At least I only have to work a couple more days before I get my pay.

...Hey, that rhymed!

[A continuous squawking that sounds like spear-spear-spear-spearow is suddenly heard - which almost sounds like a laugh. She sighs, stops, and looks up to the sky. A Spearow swoops down onto her favorite perch - Clover's shoulder. The girl looks at the Pokémon and gives it The Look. Which, she realizes, is something that she's been doing a lot lately with this one.]

Yeah, I get it, watching me scramble around for my uniform was funny. I get it. You didn't have to follow me to work just to laugh at me, Jackie.

[Jackie doesn't say anything more, but lifts a wing to groom it as they go.]

Bolt likes talking too, when he gets excited about stuff.

Bolt? Is he an electric type?

Yep! He's a Pikachu. Wanna meet him?

Sure! I've never seen a Pikachu up close. And I think I'll need an electric Pokémon on my team.

You can actually find them in Ilex forest, they're just a bit rare. One sec...

[Ven ducks offscreen and returns with a Pikachu the size of a soda can balanced on his palm]

This is Bolt! His size is a bit different from most Pikachus, but other than that, you can expect them to look like this.

I'll keep that in mind.

[Then Clover just peers at the Pikachu, smiling.]

He's really cute! And he's actually smaller than my Budew...

[Bolt folds his little arms and by all appearances does the Pikachu version of a pout]

chuuu.

Don't sweat it, Bolt.

[Ven ruffles his little buddy's fur]

I think he worries about not being the same size as most Pikachus.

I don't think that's a problem if he can still battle. I bet he still packs a punch!

He sure does! Actually, he's learned ThunderPunch.

[She laughs.]

Sounds great! And fitting.

It's a handy skill. Apparently if pikachus are bred a certain way, they can learn Volt Tackle, but Bolt can't get that move. I like ThunderPunch better since he doesn't get damaged when he uses it.

Volt Tackle...damages the Pikachu that uses it? Isn't that kinda counterproductive?

Yeah. It's recoil damage, I guess there're a few attacks like that out there. I never have Princess use Last Resort since she gets hurt if she does it.

Ouch. I'm...pretty sure Light doesn't have any moves like that.

Not all of them learn stuff like that, luckily.

I hope it stays that way with all my Pokémon...

I'll hope so too. But even if they do, there's always the option of not using it.

...I'm never gonna use those kinds of moves if I can help it.

Me either, it's just too sad.

[She nods in agreement.]

[Bolt chatters a happy response to that]

I think he's glad to meet you too.

[She giggles.]

He doesn't seem shy at all. Unlike Light.

Yeah, Bolt's pretty outgoing. My starter though, she's really shy.
